Bacterial vaginosis and vaginitis
What is bacterial vaginosis?
Bacterial vaginosis is a condition that arises when the protective lactic acid bacteria are outnumbered by other bacteria or have become less effective. You may notice this when you have your period or after having unprotected sex, and it may seem like your symptoms come and go. Odorous discharge is the most common symptom of bacterial vaginosis, although many women have no signs or symptoms at all.
We don’t completely understand why lactic acid bacteria decrease in number, why they become less effective or which bacteria cause bacterial vaginosis. This makes it difficult to protect yourself against this infection.
